What is Talk Money Week?

Talk Money Week 2025 runs from 3rd – 7th November 2025. This national initiative is designed to encourage more open conversations about money.

Overseen by the Money and Pension Service, the week highlights the fantastic work being done by organisations across the UK to improve people’s financial wellbeing.

During the week, businesses, schools, and community groups will host events and activities to raise awareness, share knowledge, and start important conversations.

The aim is simple: to break down the stigma that surrounds money. Whether it’s pocket money or pensions, budgeting tips or retirement plans, the goal is to make money a normal topic of conversation in everyday life.

Why Talk Money Week?

Talking about money matters. It affects not just our finances, but also our health, relationships, and overall wellbeing.

Yet for many people across the UK, money remains a taboo subject. Research shows that more than half of adults avoid discussing finances with friends or family, often out of fear of causing worry or embarrassment. This silence can have real consequences. Some worrying examples include:

  • Only 38% of 7-17 year olds say they learned about how to manage money at school.
  • 11.5m adults have less than £100 in savings and investments.
  • 9m adults often use a credit card, overdraft or borrow money to buy food or pay bills because they have run short of money.
  • 22m working age adults do not feel that they understand enough about pensions to make decisions about saving for retirement.
  • 5m older people in retirement are not satisfied with their overall financial circumstances.

Your Free 30-minute ‘Talk Money ’ Session

As part of Talk Money Week, we’re offering free 30-minute sessions with a Chartered Financial Planner. These can be held by phone or via online video call, giving you the chance to ask any money-related questions in a relaxed, informal setting. For example, you might want to know:

  • How does investing work?
  • What is a pension and what are the benefits?
  • What’s the difference between saving and investing?
  • What are the risks if I invest my money?
  • Why is it so important to manage my debts?
  • How do I create and stick to a household budget?
  • How can I plan for my retirement?
  • Is there any way of making my money work better for me?
  • If something happened to me or my partner, what would happen to us financially?
  • How can we make sure that our money goes to the people we want it to after I die?
  • If my partner or I need to pay for care in the future, what impact would that have on our wealth?
  • …or anything else you want to know about money – there really is no such thing as a silly question!

No question is too big or too small — and there’s no such thing as a silly question.

These sessions are designed to boost your confidence, help you understand your options, and give you clarity about your next steps. While they don’t provide regulated financial advice, they will give you the knowledge and reassurance you need to feel more in control of your finances.
