Social Responsibility

Our Commitment to Social Responsibility

At NorthStar, we have a deep understanding and a strong commitment to our social responsibilities. As a business we are focused on achieving commercial success, but we realise that the way in which we operate has an economic, social and environmental impact.

Our social responsibility policies are at the core of our company ethos and help form our working practices and drive our vision of the future.

Respecting People

As a business, we show respect for everyone we encounter. This includes every member of the NorthStar team, our clients, suppliers, professional connections and any other individual or member of any organisation with which we interact.

We are committed to ensuring the health and welfare of every member of the NorthStar team, both professionally and personally. We demonstrate our responsibility in a number of ways including offering continuing professional development, regular performance appraisals, providing parental and compassionate leave and creating an engaging and caring workplace culture.

Delivering Equal Opportunities

NorthStar are an equal opportunities employer. We ensure every member of the NorthStar team can work in an open environment that promotes our equal opportunities culture and that is free from unlawful discrimination, including harassment and victimisation.

We seek to employ the best possible candidate for every position within NorthStar, irrespective of ethnicity, nationality, age, gender, disability, religion, sexual orientation or any other factor.

Every member of the NorthStar team is treated equally and fairly and has an unhindered opportunity to achieve their full potential.

We ensure that every member of the team has a clear understanding their rights and responsibilities in relation to our equal opportunities policy and suitable training in relation to this is provided on an ongoing basis.

As a business, we ensure that every member of our team understands and adheres to our equal opportunities policy fully and is clear what constitutes unacceptable behaviour.

Where concerns are raised in relation to our equal opportunities policy enactment, we have in place a clear, efficient and effective means of addressing such matters.

The directors of NorthStar regularly continually monitor and review the effectiveness of our equal opportunities policy and our workplace practices with a view to identifying problems and taking the necessary steps to eradicate unlawful discrimination where it is discovered.

Promoting Sustainability

At NorthStar, we endeavour to minimise the impact our business has on the environment both locally and globally and to encourage those who work for us and with us to support us in this goal.

We seek to minimise our use of non-renewable fuels by keeping travel to a minimum, using communication technologies to reduce the need for face-to-face meeting where such an option exists. We seek to minimise paper use by using electronic communication wherever possible.

Where materials are used in the course of our business activities, we always recycle these where facilities permit.

In all other aspects of our business activities, we always consider ways to minimise our environmental impact and promote sustainable sources and technologies.

We continually review our use of all resources to assess whether more sustainable methods can be employed and whether technological advances can reduce our demand for such resources in future.

Supporting Charitable Causes

At NorthStar, we believe it is important to give something back. We are committed to supporting charities that help those less fortunate than ourselves and help improve the world around us.  With this in mind, we have developed a formal set of charity donation guidelines which commits our company to helping charitable causes on a regular basis.

Working in the financial services sector, we have a particular interest in charities who try to increase financial literacy and education as this ties in with our mission to help improve the financial lives of those we work with.

We give the following to charity:

  • An annual charity donation
  • £20 donated for every new client recommended to us by an existing NorthStar client
  • At least one major fund-raising event each year
